INNER FIRE
Fabian Muhmenthaler embarks on an introspective journey where self-love becomes the key to reconnecting with the roots that once drove him to become an elite WingFoil athlete. By letting go of external expectations, he becomes aware of how far he has drifted from the essence that once connected him to the ocean: surfing. That sense of emptiness leads him to rediscover himself through the Foil, a symbol of freedom and authenticity.
This project was born from a dream.
This project began in a dream. A vivid one Fernando Cruz couldn’t ignore. It explores how we sometimes lose ourselves in our passions and love—how we slowly drift away from who we are, until we realize the need to reconnect and return to what truly defines us.
Fernando wanted to transform that dream into something physical, visual, and emotional. That’s where Fabián Muhmenthaler came in. His personal journey naturally aligned with the idea. He was looking to reconnect with the roots of surfing and explore something new through wing foiling. It became a metaphor—a shared language between the two.
They searched for places that felt raw and untouched. Landscapes where nature itself could reflect the emotional states of the story. Lanzarote became the setting where everything came together.
We shot the project in Lanzarote over the course of two weeks. Conditions weren’t always in our favor. The wind, the sea, the light—they all demanded constant adaptation. And in that, the project found even more meaning. It was a constant challenge. A deeply personal piece, crafted directly by Fabián and me—just the two of us, with our ideas, our energy, and full dedication.

The post-production process became a journey of its own. Guided by a voice-over, the story unfolds through stages: the break from freestyle, the realization of needing to reconnect, the quiet return to surfing with the foil, and the final reconciliation that comes with embracing the wing. Color played a crucial role, marking each emotional phase—especially the moments of introspection and reconnection—with depth and feeling.

This has undoubtedly been one of the most important and challenging projects Fernando have ever done. Not only from a technical standpoint, but because it is deeply personal. It speaks of love, yes. But more than anything, it speaks of self-love. The kind of love you need to give to yourself before you can share it with anyone else.
